The Wexford is available for sale

Carlyle Allen, chairman of the Wexford Hotel in Montego Bay, said on Wednesday that the 85-room hotel is still available for sale.

He is refuting a company representative who said at the top of the year that the Allen family was no longer selling the property, although it remained listed on various websites.

"The hotel is still on the market," Allen asserted, saying he needed the earlier information corrected.

The Allens purchased The Wexford from renowned hotelier Godfrey Dyer in 2006 for an undisclosed price. Since then, they have pursued US$4 million in upgrades, including 20 rooms and seven suites, a parking lot, a new conference centre and the refurbishment of bar, dining, kitchen, laundry and other facilities.

Allen is not saying how much he is seeking for the property.

"I don't want to put anything out there in terms of the asking price. It's listed on several sites," the chairman said.

The Wexford Hotel is located on the Gloucester Avenue tourist strip, facing the sea. One of the listings indicate that the property was previously appraised at US$16 million to US$18 million.
