US$5,000 gift to Etana scandalous
THE EDITOR, Sir:
As a Jamaican, I am appalled that the Holness administration could not afford to make a donation to the event by Shaggy to benefit the Bustamante Hospital for Children, yet the Government could offer US$5,000 of taxpayers' money to help facilitate Etana's 37-city US tour.
What has Etana done for Jamaica and Jamaicans lately? What was Minister 'Babsy' Grange thinking?
Will any of the funds received from Etana's ticket sales, costing US$30 to US$40 each, be allocated to any Jamaican facility in need, or any citizen of Jamaica in need?
Every single Jamaican should be outraged at this gross misappropriation of taxpayers' money.
Second, as a citizen of the United States of America, should Etana not be giving back to Jamaica instead of taking from her?
What exactly has Jamaica become under the Jamaica Labour Party?
Why did Babsy Grange not use funds from her personal bank account, or donate her pay cheque to Etana? What kind of self-centred human being accepts US$5,000 of taxpayers' money to promote herself? Are Jamaicans prepared to just sit down and allow this Government to do as they please with taxpayers' money?
